Jet pilots complain to DGCA

Chennai: In a mail titled ‘Mayday Mayday Mayday’ the Jet Airways’ pilot union National Aviators Guild made a complaint to the Director General of Civil Aviation Dr Nazim Zaidi highlighting the various Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) violations that the company was making, endangering the safety of people.
The complaint highlighted that the company had sacked two of its pilots without any reason which was in direct contravention to the CAR issued by DGCA (section 7, series G, part II). The CAR deals with the licensing of foreign pilots who work on Indian carriers. Basically, every foreign pilot has to clear a Foreign Aircrew Temporary Authorization (FATA) to get in place their clearances for flying in India. The NAG members alleged that the management had misused the provisions given by DGCA for employing a foreign pilot. The CAR in this regard states that the ‘FATA shall not be considered for any other reason except to overcome the shortage of type rated pilots with scheduled, non-scheduled, General Aviation operators’.
“In this case, the company has removed two highly experienced and qualified pilots from the airline and at the same time approached DGCA office applying for the issuance of FATA claiming shortage of qualified pilots...,” Captain Girish, president of the union alleged.
The complaint letter also highlighted that the airline had prevented Indian pilots from leaving the organisation in spite of unilaterally changing certain terms and conditions of employment, taking refuge under CAR section 7, series X, part II by claiming a shortage of qualified pilots.
