Packed Jet flight leaves behind family of four

Kolkata: When Jet Airways switched to a smaller aircraft for its Friday evening Kolkata-Agartala flight, it ended up with 10 passengers in excess. The airline informed six, but forgot to call Bikash Biswas and his family of four. When Jet officials realized that they had goofed up, they stopped the family at the check-in counter citing ‘security’ reasons.
Biswas was asked to furnish identity proofs of each family member — wife and two children aged nine and one and a half. He argued that he was a frequent flier on the sector and every time he travelled with his family, he had produced only his own identity card. But the officials refused to relent.
By the time the issue was resolved, it was too late for the family to board the aircraft. Biswas was handed four boarding passes for Saturday’s flight instead.
Jet officials admitted that the family could not be accommodated due to space crunch. At the same time they maintained that their security concerns were genuine and they were in the right in asking for identity documents of all four.
