Mumabi/New Delhi: After the government asked foreign minister S M Krishna and his deputy Shashi Tharoor last week to give up the five-star
accommodation they were enjoying in Delhi, union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar had protested against cost-cutting in travelling, saying business class provides comfort, privacy and allows them to clear files even while flying.
Now, Pawar has seen reason.
But the message has been hammered home. Union civil aviation minister Praful Patel, also of the NCP, said he had travelled to Mumbai by low-cost carrier Indigo. Union heavy industries minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, too, came to Mumbai from Delhi by SpiceJet, another budget airline. Union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde flew economy on Air India to Delhi on Saturday.
Krishna on Sunday not only decided to shun a private aircraft, but also said he would limit his travel entourage to three persons.
