Regional civil aviation meet ends

Kathmandu: The third meeting of the Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Programme, South Asia (COSCAP-SA) which comprises of the coordinators of civil aviation departments of seven countries, concluded in the capital on Tuesday.
The three-day meet was the third COSCAP-SA gathering, but the first in which all the seven countries participated.
“We discussed possibilities in trainings, equipments, medical expertise and other things regarding aviation safety,” said Binod Gautam, national coordinator of the Department of Civil Aviation.
“We are especially focused on establishing aviation commonalities and similar rules and regulations in the South Asian countries”, said Punya Raj Shakya, Regional Aerodrome Certification Safety Expert.
According to him, India occupies 70 percent and Pakistan 10 percent of COSCAP-SA market share while the other five make up the rest of 20 percent.
International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) launched COSCAP-SA in 1997 to bring together issues at the regional level. ICAO's major donors are European Union, Federal Aviation Administration and Transport Canada. They provide both technical and financial support.
