Udupi/Manipal: Aerofest 2009 organised jointly by the National Aeronautical Laboratory(NAL) Bangalore and Manipal Institute of Technlogy at Manipal began here today with a rousing reception. It was inaugurated by Dr. Somnath Mishra director of the MIT along with the registrar of the Manipal University Dr. G.K. Prabhu.
The Three day aerofest boasts of having a demo of the NAL?s MAV (Micro Aerial Vehicle) Black Kite, but today being an inclement weather over Manipal the flight could not be conducted. The MAV was fueled and readied for the flight right in the morning but due to heavy rains it could not take off.
The other aircraft models that had been brought to the show included the 2 seater Hansa training aircraft, Regional Transport Aircraft (70 seater), Saras 14 seater, and several other technologies including the one which had space applications.
Outlining the features of the show joint director of the MIT Dr. R.S. Aithal said that such expositions will help the students to take up careers in aviation and aviation industry specially the Engineering students.
With the stunning display of technology at the quadrangle ranging from the Radome of the Jaguar and the MAV?s to the super computing architecture with the Flosolver hardware, NAL has proved their technical prowess in a big way.
This year's fest is the continuation of the series of aerofests with the previous one held at Malpe.
