Kolkata: An NRI, who was apparently tying to woo his South African wife not to desert him and fly away to Cape Town, even had a scuffle with her at the airport when she put her foot down and refused to bow to his wishes. The 26-year-old woman, who recently married the NRI, had come to visit her husband's parents in the city for a few days. But within a few hours after landing in the city, a misunderstanding led to the woman booking a 3.45 pm Jet Airways ticket to Mumbai. She would then take a connecting flight to Cape Town. She arrived at the airport around 2.30 pm.
The woman was just about to cross the security-check gate when her husband and father-in-law made a dramatic entry and stopped her just in time. The husband repeatedly pleaded with her not to go. But when all his attempts failed, the duo got into a heated argument. Suddenly, the woman hurled the two travelling bags she was carrying at her husband. The enraged husband retorted by slapping her and tried to drag her out of the airport. At this point, CISF personnel intervened and tried to pacify the warring parties. The woman, however, would not listen to anyone. She freed herself from her husband's grip and rushed past the gate, heading for the check-in counter. It was 5 pm by then and the flight she was supposed to take had already departed.
The woma came out in the lounge area. There again, she caught up with her husband and father-in-law. The two sides kept swearing, screaming and quarrelling till 9.30 pm. Finally, CISF officials decided that enough was enough and escorted both the parties out of the airport.
