New Delhi: In spite of having carried over 8 lakh more passengers this September than in the corresponding month of 2008, this is the second worst performance of the domestic airline industry over the last six months.
This could be because the last six months covered the summer holiday months. Airlines in October, however, are reporting a spurt in passenger demand during the Diwali festival season.
The latest data compiled by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that the domestic airlines have reported a close to 31 per cent increase in passengers flown in September this year compared with the same period in the previous year. The latest data shows that the nine domestic airlines flew 35.05 lakh passengers in September this year compared with 26.76 lakh flown previously.
