Mumbi: While the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has laid down norms to better the on-time performance of airlines, respite from flight delays may still be a far cry, particularly when the committee to discuss the daily performance of airlines is struggling to gather a quorum.
The panel was formed at both Delhi and Mumbai airports after the civil aviation ministry asked for a daily analysis of flight delays and the ways they could be brought down. Officials, however, said that though the meetings are being held, the number of people attending them has dropped.
"The attendance is very erratic. While some representatives would come, the est would be missing on some pretext or the other,'' said a senior airport official.
The meeting is to be ideally conducted with eight representatives each from different India-based carriers, a nominated Air Traffic Control (ATC) official and a Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) official on a daily basis.
"When the meetings started in July, the response was really good. However, the attendance fizzled out after a couple of months,'' an airport official said.
Airline sources also said they attend whenever they can. "It wasn't a mandatory requirement. We try to go whenever we can make it,'' said a senior airline official.
