Kolkata: Two elegant hotel towers, a mega convention centre and a sprawling mall will add more glitz to the modern Kolkata airport terminal scheduled for completion in 2012.
The Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, that had acquired the airport hotel from MBD group, plans to begin construction on the Rs 300 crore facility soon so that it is synchronized with the Rs 2,000-crore airport upgrade project.
"The project was conceived in 2006. The designs for the complex have been finalized and construction will begin as soon as statutory clearances are through. We expect to start work within six months and complete the project by 2012," a DS Group spokesperson said.
The seven-storey Airport Hotel that had become an iconic building after it was built in 1975, is being pulled down to make way for the mega complex. Two hotel towers will be built one of 250 rooms offering star facility and the other of 100 budget rooms will come up on the 7.5 acre site.
These apart, there will be 4,300 sq ft convention centre as well as a 2.5 lakh sq ft commercial block offering high-end retail.
