Runway repairs may hit Mumbai flight services

Mumbai: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is mulling to suspend flight operations at Mumbai airport for six hours every Tuesday in view of the landing fiasco in which three airlines allegedly violated its directives on operations on a wet runway.
“We are contemplating to order suspending all flights between 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Tuesday,’’ a DGCA source said.
The proposed move was discussed at the meeting held with the private operators of Mumbai and Delhi airport held in the national capital on Friday, the source said. The directions in this regard are likely to be issued shortly.
Two pilots of Kingfisher were derostered after the ATR-72 aircraft with 46 people on board overshot the shortened runway and skidded on Tuesday in what could have been a potential air disaster.
Earlier, the DGCA held a meeting with the two private airport operators over the issue.
