A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday afternoon by Mumbai crime branch officers from Narnal, in Haryana, for allegedly sending an email to Air India threatening to blow up an Air India flight. The airlines received the email on October 23, at 4.48pm, after which airports all over the country were put on high alert. On Saturday, the police revealed the boy had simply done this out of frustration and anger at his father, who wanted him to study and become a doctor.
According to the police, the boy claimed to be under tremendous pressure because of this. "The teenager says he took science as a subject in the first year of college only because his father wanted him to become a doctor, but he found it hard to cope with his studies. Later, he took admission in the BCom section instead," joint commissioner of police, Crime, Rakesh Maria, said.
The accused created a new email ID to send the threat mail to Air India. The email was sent from a personal computer in his Haryana home.
The cyber cell section of the Mumbai crime branch tracked down the IP address to nab the boy. On Saturday, the police left Haryana for Mumbai along with the boy and the computer that was used to send the email.
