AAI considers enlisting traffic wardens to regulate vehicular flow at airport

Pune: The Lohegaon airport authorities are working on a plan to engage trained traffic wardens in order to streamline the flow of vehicles in front of the main terminal building during peak operational hours. Airport director Deepak Shastri, told TOI, "We have asked the city traffic branch to assess the peak hour situation in front of the main terminal and give us a solution for regulating the traffic." Shastri said, "Engaging wardens to assist regular traffic personnel posted at the airport is one option. This would also enable us to implement a fresh pattern for the flow of vehicles to decongest the area during peak hours." Traffic wardens are members of the civilian staff provided by the local self-governing bodies to assist traffic policemen in regulating the flow of vehicles. The concept is adopted from the model followed by the British police force. As of now, the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pune Cantonment Board have provided wardens to the city traffic branch to assist traffic personnel in areas under their respective jurisdictions.
