Airport security put on test

Thiruvananthapuram: The preparedness of various forces in countering a bomb threat to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was put on test in a mock drill on Friday.The mock drill began by 1.30 p.m. with Air India’s airport manager receiving a anonymous telephone call informing that a timer-enabled bomb had been planted inside the terminal building in a black bag.The Air India officials immediately passed on the message to airport duty manager. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee comprising Airport Director N.Nagraj, CISF commandant K.C.S.Rai and other top officials immediately met and alerted the state police.
In the meantime, passengers and officials in the terminal building were evacuated and the area where the bag was found under suspicious circumstance was cordoned off.
The dog squad and bomb squad of the police immediately rushed to the spot.
The bag was subsequently moved to the cooling-pit in the airport and the ‘bomb’ defused.
