Bomb on flight to Dhaka? Hoax call? No, it’s a mock security drill at IGI Airport

New Delhi A Phone call claiming that a bomb had been planted in a Jet Airways flight to Dhaka on Saturday afternoon turned out to be a mock drill by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) at the IGI Airport to check alertness of all authorities concerned.
Sources said the operation was quickly wrapped up after it emerged that senior Bangladesh government officials were in the flight 9W272. The flight eventually took off after a 177-minute delay — 106 passengers were on board.
The call about the bomb came around 1 pm at the airline’s back office in the terminal building — the caller identified himself as Paresh Barua, the self-styled commander-in-chief of ULFA.
“All the passengers were thoroughly checked. The checking was done normally because security personnel conducting it were not aware till then that it was a mock drill,” a senior security official said.
The all-clear was sounded after two hours, and an announcement was made that it was a mock drill. The flight left for Dhaka soon after.
