Civil aviation ministry for uplift of airports

With airport infrastructure lagging behind other developments, the government has stepped up pending decongestion and city side development work at 24 airports including Kolkata, Hyderabad (Begumpet), Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Trivandrum, Lucknow and Madurai.
The average number of flights operated in a day from Mumbai international airport is 654, from Delhi international airport 666, from Chennai international airport 306, from Bangalore international airport 280, from Kolkata international airport 231, from Hyderabad international airport 219 and from Cochin international airport it is 112.
In the first phase, 10 airports - Kolkata, Hyderabad (Begumpet), Vishakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Lucknow, Indore, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Guwahati and Jaipur would be taken up for city side development.
The work involves creating facilities like hotels, restaurants, convention centres, food court, flight kitchen, petrol pump, retail shops, cargo facilities, parking etc.
The land available at the airports on the city side would be carried out and leased through open tender for development of facilities. The amount to be spent for city side development at each airport would depend upon the bid to be submitted by the successful bidder selected through competitive bidding.
Various steps have been taken up to decongest the pressure at major airports across the country. According to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, airport operators have initiated measures for high speed exit taxi-ways at Delhi and Mumbai airports.
