IGI airport will be the 2nd largest in the world: Dikshit

New Delhi: With the commissioning of new integrated terminal building, the IGI airport will become the second largest one in the world in the next six months, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Thursday.
The Delhi chief minister along with Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today visited the project site of Terminal 3 at IGI Airport and inspected the progress.
A team of DIAL, a GMR-group led consortium operating and modernising the IGI airport, apprised them about the development progress.
Dikshit and Patel also inaugurated the newly built check-in counters and travelators (automatic walkways) at the international pier of Terminal 3.
Work on T3 is nearing completion at a fast pace and currently 84 per cent of the works have been completed, a DIAL official said.
The Terminal spreads across 5.2 million square feet and will have passenger friendly features, special features for passengers with special needs.
The new terminal would have 170 check-in counters and an advanced in-line baggage handling system with a capacity of more than 12,500 bags per hour. The Baggage Handling System also features nearly 6.5km of baggage belts.
