Jet charts new flight plan as loads improve

It seems the troubled airline industry is getting a breather. Jet Airways may look at migrating more passengers to its flagship carrier, from its low-cost Jet Konnect as the demand for plane tickets rises.
The airline is now having a relook at its flight plans, banking on the rising load factors fuelling the confidence of a bruised sector.
Jet Airways is likely to transfer some capacity back from Jet Konnect to Jet Airways. The airline, which slashed its business seats from 3600 per day to 1600 per day, is now trying to add some capacity in business class on domestic routes. It will also revamp its Canadian regional jet fleet and might get some brand new ATRs or Embraer aircraft. Jet will also restore capacity on some of its international routes.
Apporva Shah, head of research at Prabhudas Lilladher, said, “The strategy will work in the short run for Jet Airways. It will help them capitalize on the loads.” But in the “in the long run the strategy will not work. The airlines are heavily taxed and there are huge debts,” he said.
