Air Asia will add nine more flights to India next year on top of the four current Indian destinations it has been flying to since last December.
The destinations for the new flights are Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Amritsar. These flights will depart from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Bangkok.
AirAsia group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said the group will continue to use Kuala Lumpur as a hub for its flights to India.
"We have 20 potential airports that we can go to in India and we’ve only covered 10," said Fernandes at a press conference after watching the official launch of the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata route in India via video conference.
He said the new routes would not only benefit tourists but also businesses such as small medium enterprises like the textile business.
Eight to 10 aircraft will be deployed for its Indian routes. Among the new flights to be rolled out next year is the Penang-Chennai route in April.
