Mumbai: Nortel India is in news after a long time. The company’s Enterprise Solutions unit today bagged a Managed Services contract from Mumbai Airport Private Limited (MIAL) which is managing and developing the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. The contract is valid for five years.
As part of the deal, Nortel will manage the data and voice network of MIAL which again is built by Nortel. The network supports tenants of thecompany such as airlines, restaurants and cargo handlers. Nortel will make use of its Network Operations Centre in Bangalore.
“We run the network as a profit center leasing it out to the various tenants at the airport, which makes network uptime and availability critical for us,” says the Head of MIAL’s Information Technology group. “While MIAL has an on-site support team to manage the routine IT infrastructure issues that crop up from time to time, Nortel Enterprise Solutions introduces another critical level of support by pre-empting issues that can cause disruptions to the network. This ensures that we deliver a highly available, secure network to the various airlines and passenger facilities providers at the airport.”
