Chandigarh: Problems of passengers compounded in the city after Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways suspended their operations till January 10 due to fog, even as all the airlines cancelled their operations for the eighth consecutive day on Thursday. Other airlines, including Air India and Go Air, which also had no operations today, said they would take any further decision based on how the weather fares in coming days.
Friday’s prospects, too, look bleak. Go Air has already cancelled its flights scheduled for the day, while Air India Station Manager Sujoy Kishore said, “We cancelled the flights today and the same is likely on Friday as well. But we will see if the weather clears up in the next two days and operations might be possible on Saturday. It’s certainly a loss for the airlines and means harassment for the passengers. But there is little we can do.”
That the Chandigarh airport’s Instrument Landing System (ILS) lies defunct hasn’t helped matters. Airport director Suneel Dutt told Newsline that the situation is worse this winter as the ILS was working last year. “Till the weather clears up, there is nothing that we can do,” he added.
