‘Chakan will take time, let’s focus on Pune airport’

Pune: Chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee and MP Suresh Kalmadi on Friday said instead of the proposed international airport at Chakan, which could take at least ten years to come up, the present Pune airport should be further upgraded and amenities should be improved.
Kalmadi had convened a meeting with the authorities of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) stationed at the Pune civil airport. MLA Bapu Pathare, Pune Airport director Deepak Shastri and the civil aviation committee of the Mahratta Chamber Commerce, Industries and Agriculture's (MCCIA) chairman S K Jain were present at the meeting also attended by the representatives of the airliners.
Kalmadi said, "It can take another decade to complete the work of the proposed international airport at Chakan. Therefore, there is a need to upgrade the amenities at the Lohegaon airport, which is being used for national as well as international flights"
