Items worth Rs 1.6 lakh missing from check-in baggage

Pune resident Mukta Sable’s journey from London to Mumbai by Jet Airways ended in heartache. Her baggage arrived two days late, and items worth Rs 1.59 lakh were missing.
Mukta said, “After an eight-day stay in London, I boarded a Jet Airways (flight number 9W117, with a business class upgradation) to Mumbai. On January 8, I landed in Mumbai and from there, my troubles began.
After waiting for over one-and-a-half hours at the conveyor belt to collect the two bags that I had checked in before boarding the flight, I found that they were missing. I immediately contacted the Jet Airways office at the airport and filed a complaint about my missing bags.
... “Finally, after around eight hours, one of the staffers re-sponded to my call and he assured me that he would call up at the London Heathrow airport and check if my bags have been left there.
After some time, when I called the Jet Airways office again, the staffer told me that my luggage was neither in London nor at Mumbai airport.
“When I called up at Heathrow airport, I found that my bags were still lying there and had not been loaded onto my flight. The airline staff told me that the bags would be sent by the next flight and they would reach me the next day...” Mukta said.
Mukta did finally get her bags on January 10.
“When I received my bags, they were in a very bad condition. Some people had enough time to go through both the bags and remove everything that was new and seemed expensive. Valuables worth nearly Rs 1.6 lakh were missing..."
