Rs 18,000 to fly from Vizag to Hyderabad!

Viskhapatnam: Imagine shelling out Rs 18,000 to fly down to Hyderabad from Vizag. Absurd, you may say but that’s what travellers making a beeline to travel out of Vizag had to pay on Sunday what with a bandh threatening to paralyse life in north coastal Andhra on Monday.
“We charged Rs 15,000 from a passenger for Vizag-Hyderabad evening flight. He readily agreed as he was keen to fly back to Hyderabad after finishing his work in Vizag,” Naidu, a travel agent, told TOI. This ticket was bought in the early afternoon but by late afternoon the fares had peaked at Rs 18,000. In normal times an airticket between the two cities cost Rs 4,000 and sometimes it goes up to Rs 6,000 one way. Sources said the demand for the flight tickets went up in the afternoon once it became clear that both the railways and the state-run RTC had started curtailing their services ahead of Monday’s bandh.
“With all the airlines flights booked, we had to depend on private tour operators who block some seats and are charging the moon now,” a traveller bemoaned, before catching a Spicejet flight.
