Scan if you can ensure safety

Mumbai: Better safe than sorry. City fliers seem to have reconciled to the fact that soon they will be facing full-body scanners [FBS] before boarding planes.
The Nigerian passenger, who, last month, boarded a Detroit-bound North West Airline flight with explosives, has shown that terrorists have the means to beat even the most stringent of the existing security measures.
Most of the air travellers DNA spoke to in the city said that privacy was important, but not at the cost of security. They said they would accept the FBS, but the government must ensure that their images would not be exploited or misused later.
Lenisha Hiran, 32, another Mumbaikar, said, “We do not feel shy when we go to doctors for check-up. Why should we then make privacy an issue when something as important as security is concerned?”
“The government should guarantee that after scanning, the images will be destroyed so they do not end up in the porn market,” Akshat Jain, 25, a Dadar resident, said.
