High alert has been sounded across all airports in the country following intelliegnce reports of possible attack by terrorists with Republic day just around the corner.
A three-tier security apparatus has been put in place with additional CISF personnel also deployed.
.An US Think Tank had recently revealed the possibility of a 26/11 type of (Mumbai) attacks across all airports by terrorits in the country. 'The threat of another Mumbai-type attack is undeniable; numerous Pakistan-based groups remain motivated and able to strike Indian targets,' it had said. Also, Indian intelligence agencies have sounded warning about some terror plots orchestrated by vested intersts to spoil the 26 January Republic day celebrations.
Entry of visitors to the Chennai airport has been banned from Saturday evening. On the security arrangements, the AAI officials say that from Sunday, all vehicles entering the airport would be checked. Similarly, a ladder point check will be conducted in which passengers, after completing immigration, customs and security formalities, will be checked on the aerobridge before boarding their aircraft.
