Bhopal: Thirty seven passengers and crew of an Ahmedabad-bound Jet Airways flight today had a miraculous escape when one of its engines caught fire, forcing the plane to land back here under emergency conditions.
The 2510 Raipur-Bhopal-Indore-Ahmedabad ATR flight, which came here from Raipur, took off from the Raja Bhoj Airport here this evening for Indore at 1845 hours, a Jet Airways official told PTI.
However, 15 minutes later sparks were noticed in one of aircraft's engines which soon turned into a fire, following which the pilot immediately shut down the engine and sounded an emergency alert at the Bhopal airport, Obaiz Vanzara, Jet Airways Sales Manager here, said.
As the plane made an emergency landing at the airport, two of its tyres burst, leaving the aircraft stranded on the main runway, a Jet Airways statement said.
