Airport terminal to be operational by May

Madurai: The new integrated passenger terminal at Madurai airport will become operational by May, said Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman V.P. Agrawal here on Friday. The state-of-the-art building is coming up at a cost of Rs. 128.57 crore. Major works have been completed and only about 10 to 15 per cent of the works are to be carried out.
Speaking to The Hindu after inspecting the new terminal building, he said that the runway would be extended to 12,500 feet once the State government acquired the required lands.
Earlier, at a review meeting held in the new terminal, the AAI officials apprised Mr. Agrawal of the pending works and availability of materials. Issues such as getting adequate CISF police personnel for manning the new terminal round-the-clock would be sorted out at an appropriate time, Mr. Agrawal said.
