GMR's MRO unit by next year

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) plans to start maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations by April 2011, its top official said on Tuesday.
“We are planning to start operations by April 2011 for which construction is on,” P Sripathy, chief executive officer, GHIAL, said.
The MRO is a joint venture between Malaysian Airlines and GMR, with the Indian firm holding 51% stake. The facility will come up in two phases with the first phase becoming operational by April 2011.
“We are developing 18 acres of the total 25 acres in the first phase. Once the operations start, we will have three hangars,” said Girish Deshmukh, GMR general manager (aviation and aerospace business).
The company said while it is still working on the total budget, the first phase investment could be close to $80-90 million. GMR will be constructing one wide-bodied line, two narrow-bodied line and one paint space line at the facility. “We will be able to repair Boeing 737, Boeing 777, Airbus 330 and Airbus 320 at these hangars,” Deshmukh said.
