Indian assistance to reconstruct airfield in Northern Sri Lanka

Colombo: In continuation of the ongoing assistance package to Sri Lanka for rehabilitation in the Northern Province, India is to provide assistance to reconstruct the ports in the North and develop the Palaly airfield, Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha said today.
The High Commissioner made these remarks at a ceremony held today at the Galle Face Green in Colombo to hand over the first lot of the second consignment of Galvanised Corrugated (GC) Sheets for constructing shelters for Sri Lanka's Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their new places of habitation.
Underlying India's commitment to infrastructure development in Northern Sri Lanka, t The High Commissioner said India has already announced a line of credit of US$ 425 million for the reconstruction of railway infrastructure in northern Sri Lanka.
In addition, India is also committed to assist in the rehabilitation of the ports and aviation sector in Sri Lanka to include the Kankasanthurai Port, the Point Pedro Harbour and the Palaly airfield.
