Mumbai: Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) aims to further strengthen its foothold in the Indian airfreight market via more frequencies this year.
However, regional manager (Americas, Africa and India) Amiroel Shazrie Yussof said this would be subject to the decision by its parent company, Malaysia Airlines (MAS), on increasing the frequencies to Indian points this year.
“Currently, MASkargo flies daily to Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai, as well as four times weekly to Hyderabad and Bangalore via passenger flight belly capacity.
“Due to the anticipated economic recovery at the end of the second quarter, we expect to secure more cargo from India this year.
“However, the increase in frequencies has not been decided,” he told reporters during the Air Cargo India 2010 international networking conference and exhibition yesterday.
Cargo volume from India was forecast to reach an average 900 tonnes a month this year, he said.
He added that India contributed about 3% of MASkargo’s total revenue last year with load factor between 65% and 70%. India is one of MASkargo’s top 10 revenue generating points globally. Its top two business points are Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur.
