New domestic terminal at Mumbai to open in April

Mumbai: Passengers taking a flight from Mumbai airport's domestic terminal can look forward to boarding their flights more conveniently by the first week of April. The Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) will be inaugurating a new terminal, 1C.
The new terminal, which will link the existing terminals 1A and 1B, will have aerobridges to facilitate quick boarding, thereby making the long bus rides from the tarmac to the terminal building a thing of the past. The terminal is likely to benefit passengers boarding from 1B, which does not have any aerobridge and passengers have to take a bus from the terminal building to the aircraft.
"The terminal will be ready by the end of March and will be thrown open to passengers by the first week of April," an MIAL spokesperson said. "It will act as a link for both terminals. Also passengers, depending on the traffic and availability of aerobridges, would be boarding from 1C after completing their check-in formalities," he added. Another official said the idea was to do away with passenger coaches and keep vehicular activity in the operations area limited.
Officials said that terminal 1C would have six aerobridges. Currently, terminal 1A, which is the boarding point for Kingfisher and Air India flights, has five aerobridges. This terminal will open up the option of an aerobridge for passengers of other airlines like Jet Airways, Indigo, Spice Jet etc, for which boarding takes place from 1B.
