Wanted: Sales tax cut on aviation fuel

Mumbai: The non-scheduled operators (NSOPs) have their own budget 2010 dreams.
They want the government to treat them on par with the scheduled airlines. Moreover, they have a wish-list ready.
“We would like the government to bring aviation turbine fuel (ATF) under the declared goods category. This will bring down the sales tax up to four per cent from the current 28% , which makes buying ATF in Maharashtra very costly,” said Arun Lohiya, CEO, Bafna Aviation. The sales tax levied in various states is in the range of 28-32%. In fact, such a development, if at all it happens, will benefit even the flying training institutes which use 100 Octane ATF called 100 LL fuel.
