Mumbai: A senior official working with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was picked up late on Thursday evening on the suspicion of murdering his wife. The woman used to work as an assistant manager with the Mumbai Airport’s Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Eknath Pai, 48, works as a manager with AAI in Mumbai. On March 16, Pai approached the Powai police station claiming that his wife Ajita, 45, was lying unconscious at their home and not responding to his calls.
The Powai police visited the home and after finding nothing amiss, they sent the body for the mandatory post mortem. Ajita’s body was subsequently handed over to Pai who wanted to cremate it at his native place in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. “But, after we received the post mortem report, it was found that Ajita had been strangulated to death and had not died a natural death as claimed by her husband,” said senior inspector Ashok Jadhav of Powai police station.
Jadhav also said that it was possible that more than one person was involved in the murder. Further investigations are on.
