Flights to Kabul safe & will continue: NACIL

Hyderabad: Brushing aside the demands of pilots’ union to discontinue air service to trouble torn Afghanistan, National Aviation Company of India Limited that operates Air India has asserted that flight operations to that country are safe and will continue.
“Air India flights to Kabul are absolutely safe,” Arvind Jadhav, Chairman-Managing Director NACIL asserted here on the sidelines of India Aviation 2010 conference on Thursday reassuring travelers after Air India pilots had threatened not to fly to the Afghan capital.
“We will ourselves not fly if it is unsafe,” Arvind Jadhav, CMD NACIL said when asked to comment on the letter shot by Indian Commercial Pilot Association (ICPA) recently that had raised safety and security concerns of crew and passengers while flying into Afghanistan.
“Afghanistan is our friend and it involves national prestige. We have to support Afghanistan.
There is no point in taking up this issue,” Jadhav said.
In a letter to Executive Director (Operations) of Air India, ICPA General Secretary Captain S Sabu said that the political situation in Kabul has been deteriorating and that the NATO forces have launched a major offensive against insurgents in the region.
