Fuel spill at airport ignites fear, cleared

Panaji: It was a messy affair at the Dabolim airport on Tuesday morning when aviation turbine fuel spilled out of an aircraft's tank during re-fuelling causing a hindrance to airport staff, passengers and flights.
One airline staff member, a woman employed with Kingfisher Airlines, was injured after she slipped on the fuel and fracturing her arm.
According to Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, the incident occurred at around 8am when a chartered plane was being refuelled.
The fuel tanks overflowed and several litres of aviation fuel washed onto the tarmac.
The incident happened directly in front of Gate No 2 where passengers were boarding a Kingfisher flight.
A ground staff personnel of the airline could not maintain her balance in the oil spill and fell. She received fractures to her arm and was taken to the Salgaocar Medical Research Centre, Chicalim, for medical attention.
