Hyderabad: The civil aviation ministry plans to come up with an incentive-linked scheme for the Airports Authority of India to better the performance of state-owned airports, bringing them at par with those run by private operators.
The scheme would encourage employees by giving them a sense of ownership, said a senior ministry official. Under the scheme, employees of a particular airport would be given additional monetary benefits if the airport manages to achieve stated service ratings and performance benchmarks. The total outgo for the scheme is estimated to be between Rs 10-20 crore per annum, the official told The Indian Express on the sidelines of India Aviation 2010, jointly organised by Ficci and the civil aviation ministry.
The ministry, in consultation with the AAI, is likely to evolve performance parameters and corresponding incentive payouts for all employees at an airport. After privatisation, airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Banaglore, Hyderabad and Cochin account for 51 per cent of total domestic traffic, 60 per cent of total international traffic and 71 per cent of total cargo movement in the country.
