Mumbai: The government has appointed four new non-official part-time directors on the board of the National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) for a period of three years. The new part-time directors appointed to the board are automobile major Mahindra and Mahindra vice-chairman Anand Mahindra, Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Fali Homi Major, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry secretary general Amit Mitra and Ambuja Realty Group chairman Harsh Neotia.
“Air India’s board has a provision for a maximum of 18 members and AI’s management has been of the view of filling some of these posts with individuals from reputed backgrounds who can help the carrier take shrewd decisions in its functioning,” said an Air India official.
Earlier, there were talks in the carrier’s management to appoint a separate advisory board and the carrier had approached businessmen like Ratan Tata and Rahul Bajaj. Former ICICI Bank chairman N Vaghul, who had been earlier holding the post of a part-time director on the board of NACIL, recently resigned from the board.
