Offloaded passengers complain to court

Air India has been told to pay compensation to two passengers who suffered “mental agony.”
A verdict handed down by the Court of State Consumer Disputes Commission, Assam, directed the company to pay a compensation for its deficiency in service for the passengers.
Two complainants, who had purchased confirmed air tickets on the Silchar-Guwahati flight in September 2007, were denied boarding passes at the Silchar Airport despite the fact that they had arrived at the airport well ahead of scheduled time.
Airline officials told the court that boarding passes weren’t issued to the pair as they went instead to two friends of the Civil Aviation Minister.
After being refused boarding, the complainants had to buy tickets on another flight for the journey, which made them late for urgent business meetings at the other end.
The two-member team of the Commission, in its judgement, said that there was strong evidence to show deficiency in service by Air India authorities.
