New Delhi: The upgradation and recarpeting work of the main runway of the IGI airport will take six months and be over by September this year before the Commonwealth Games.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has submitted a proposal for reconstruction of the main runway (28/10). It would remain closed for about six months. As per the plan, the work would be completed by September 20, civil aviation minister Praful Patel said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had inspected the runway on February 19 to assess its condition and concluded that it needs major repairs.
