Bangalore: The Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) has allocated space to the Animal Quarantine and Certification Services (AQCS), a central government organisation, for facilitating the import of pets.
This was seen as necessary as the airport receives nearly 20 enquiries from international passengers each month about the process for bringing in pets from foreign countries.
The airport has received a circular stating that pet dogs and cats, laboratory animals, poultry and livestock products that have an import permit that checks for sanitation are allowed to pass through BIA.
Animals falling into any other category can be imported through quarantine facilities in the four metro cities, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The import of livestock and livestock products is only allowed at the four metros, to better insulate the country’s livestock from exotic or emergent diseases.
