Mumbai: Nearly three months after the airport police filed an FIR against two players of football club Churchill Brothers for allegedly molesting an airhostess on SpiceJet’s Goa-Mumbai-Kolkata flight on January 6, neither of the players has been summoned to follow up the charges.
In fact, an official from the airport police station said, investigators are still probing the authenticity of the charges.
“We’re still waiting for the police to call the players. They haven’t been called back to Mumbai yet,” said Joaquim Alemao, owner of Churchill Brothers, Goa’s leading football club.
Alemao added he was waiting for the police to press charges on the basis of which he intends to file a defamation suit against the airline, a stand he has already made clear.
Senior inspector N Indurkar of the domestic airport police station refused to comment. “We are still probing the charges,” is all he said. On January 6, all 23 members of the football club, on its way to a tournament in Kolkata, were forced out of the flight following the allegation by the airhostess.
