While the proposed Rs.850 crore railway project from Dimapur to Kohima has crossed the first hurdle over land compensation, other notable projects such as expansion of the Dimapur airport to international standard and construction of the four-lane expressway between Dimapur to Kohima have run aground due to various reasons best known to the government.
Indian Airlines began operation from Dimapur Airport in the mid-70s. A proposal to expand the runway to facilitate landing of big jets and also develop it into international standards has hit a road block.
Firstly, Aoyimti and Hollohon colonies had demanded exorbitant rates at Rs.600 per square feet but at the insistence of the government, it was finally agreed at Rs.450 per square feet. However, for reasons best known to the government, the acquisition process was suddenly called off.
