Setback for Mihan as night airmail service discontinued

Nagpur: In yet another setback for the Mihan cargo hub project, India Post has discontinued its postal cargo ‘night airmail’ service from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport from March 31.
Though senior Air India officials attributed ‘operational’ reasons for discontinuation of India Post postal cargo services, India Post officials confirmed that Air India’s problems with pilots had not only affected the freighter operations of India Post from Nagpur but domestic operations from other airports too.
The development is a jolt to Mihan after Duke Aviation shelved its plans to set up an MRO in the SEZ. A senior airport official said that India Post used to operate a hub at Nagpur for exchange of mail and faster transmission of Speed Post, mail and parcels every night. The services were affected since the last few days because Air India is facing a financial as well as pilots crisis, he said.
