Mumbai: One of the three dedicated helicopter corridors in the airspace of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) will be unavailable between 5 am and 8 pm every day, when flights take off from the airport’s secondary runway and simultaneous runway operations are on at the cross-runways, airport officials said.
The secondary runway reopened on Friday after repairs that took about six months.
“One corridor is in the take-off path of the secondary runway, which will be unavailable when simultaneous operations are on,” said an Airports Authority of India (AAI) officer.
On Saturday, the first day of simultaneous operations, Capt Vijay Madan of the AAA Aviation, who was returning to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse helipad, said, “We had to revert to the old procedure of crossing the runway overhead instead of using the corridor.”
After a delay of almost three years, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had recently cleared a total of 16 dedicated unidirectional flight paths in Mumbai for helicopters.
