Consumer panel slaps fine of Rs 15,000 on MDLR

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on MDLR Airlines for deficiency in services resulting in mental agony and harassment to a Panchkula resident in 2008 during his journey from Kolkata to Chandigarh. The Airlines has also been directed to pay Rs 5,000 to the applicant as the costs of the journey from Jaipur to Chandigarh and Rs 5,000 as litigation charges.
Pankaj Mahajan of Sector 4, Panchkula stated that he had booked four tickets for his family from the Airlines after paying Rs 47,000 for the return journey from Chandigarh to Kolkata in December 2008. While returning from Kolkata to Chandigarh, he said, the flight was scheduled to depart at 12.40 pm but took off at night and that too with boarding passes from Kolkata to New Delhi only. The flight landed at Jaipur instead of Delhi.
He alleged that neither the Airlines arranged their journey from Jaipur to Chandigarh by air, nor did they provide an AC bus. The family was instead told to travel in an ordinary bus on a winter night, forcing them to later hire a taxi from Delhi to Chandigarh. He and his family were confined to bed for many days after that 'horrible' journey, Mahajan said. While his children could not go to school, he could not manage his business for days.
