Expansion plans for Ludhiana airport get under way

Ludhiana: Though the much awaited domestic passenger flights from city airport have not started, plans of expansions for the purpose are well under way. State government has directed district administration to acquire over 60 kanals worth Rs 4.45 crore for this. Administration is preparing to give practical shape to this.
Residents have been waiting for the first passenger flight, which is scheduled to take off on May 13.
Administration has been busy trying to finalize land deals.
Sub-divisional magistrate Manpreet Singh Chatwal said, “Yes, there are plans for expansion. We have completed all the formalities and even land deals are final. We are simply waiting for the cheques so that we can issue those to start expansion plans.”
Notably, few months back, nearly Rs 12 crore were spent for re-carpeting the runway and for other renovation. Since 2002, there have been plans of having 72-seater planes ferrying passengers from the city. However, those could not be executed.
