Jet lands on one engine after mid-air scare

Kolkata: A Jet Airways plane, flying on one engine, made an emergency landing in Kolkata on Sunday morning after an indicator started acting up.
According to officials, soon after the Bagdogra-bound flight took off at 9.20am, the indicator of the ‘reversal anti-lock system’ of the right-engine lit up. “The indicator glows only when the aircraft is on the ground. If it does so mid-air, it means there is a problem with the engine. The pilot did not want to take any chances. As Bagdogra is a comparatively smaller airport, he decided to make a priority landing at Kolkata airport,” a Jet Airways official said.
As per the protocol, the pilot switched off the right engine of the twin-engined aircraft. The plane landed back at Kolkata airport at 9.55am.
“All 42 passengers on board landed safely. After all the passengers were de-planed, engineers carried out extensive tests on the aircraft,” said the official. The test that lasted around an hour revealed that the engine was fine. There was a problem with the indicator.
