Kolkata: Thirty-five passengers, booked on a JetLite fight from Kolkata to Vizag, had a traumatic experience on Thursday when they were cooped up for two hours in an aircraft with no air-conditioning. The Directorate General Civil Aviation has sought a report on the matter from the airline.
It was only when the agitated passengers accosted a steward after suffering for an hour that they learnt that the auxiliary power unit (APU) - which powers a stationary aircraft - had malfunctioned.
If that wasn't horror enough, the pilot decided to take off in the same conditions and connect the AC system to the engine after the plane was airborne. Unaware of the technical intricacies, the shocked passengers three off their seatbelts and forced the pilot to abandon take-off.
