Bangalore: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel might have given his consent for the much-delayed inauguration of the Mysore Airport on May 15, but with just 10 days to go for its formal opening, there is no commercial flight schedule of airlines that will fly in and out of the Heritage City.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in charge of operations of the Mysore Airport, is unaware of the commercial flights they would be handling.
A senior AAI official told Express that no official flight schedule, indicating it would start commercial operation from May 15, was given to the airport.
Patel had recently given assurance to a visiting delegation of state Congress that he would inaugurate the Rs 6.29-crore airport, which was ready a few months ago, along with the newly- built Mangalore International Airport on May 15.
Though the Mysore Airport was ready for operations during last year’s Dasara celebrations, commercial airlines have been reluctant to operate flights to the city despite its huge tourism potential. The load factor is said to be the main reason for holding back commercial airlines from operating flights from Mysore.
