New Delhi: India's notorious flight delays returned to haunt a team of top officials of the aviation regulator who wanted to rush to the crash site in Mangalore and begin investigations on Saturday.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) brass — DG Nasim Zaidi and two joint DGs, A K Chopra and R P Sahi — were to fly to Mumbai by Jet Airways 9W 302 at 9.40am and then take another flight to Mangalore. But the aircraft could take off only at 11.20am, a delay of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
An airline spokesperson attributed this to ATC delays and late arrival of incoming aircraft from Mumbai.
The Delhi ATC, however, denied that there was any delay on its part. The sources said the Jet aircraft got delayed due to a combination of three factors — about an hour's delay in the aircraft flying in from previous station before it could operate as 9W 302 from Delhi and half an hour due to internal factors.
